Origin

How did it all start?

Ogilvy South Africa’s origins lie with a small hot shop in Cape Town.

Founded by Bob Rightford, Brian Searle-Tripp and Roger Makin in 1976, Ogilvy & Mather RS-TM merged with Ogilvy in 1984 and dominated the local creative scene during the first decade. Over the next twenty years, it was recognised as a brand-focused agency that acted with integrity. During the 1990’s, the company soared creatively under the leadership of Robyn Putter (1950-2010), who eventually went on to become the global creative head of WPP. Today, we generate the most profound impact for some of the biggest brands in South Africa.

FUTURE

Ogilvy isn’t just an agency, it’s the ‘University of Advertising’. We’ve designed unique programs to invest in the growth of every new generation in the sector. Each year, we hand-pick highly talented young people, equipping them with the essential skills to propel the industry forward. We believe in equal opportunity, which is why we also offer fully sponsored studies – to ensure that talent, not circumstance, determines impact.
